How to build a capsule work wardrobe.

With the potential for some for us to be going back to the office soon, maybe a couple of days a week, or a few meetings here and there, how are we going to pull our work outfits out of our wardrobe.

Let’s start off hoping we have most of these items in your wardrobe already. So there should be little need to break the bank balance during this strenuous time.

  1. White Shirt

This can be cotton, linen, silk or satin. Whatever your budget there will be one out there or in your wardrobe/ your boyfriends wardrobe. As I mentioned in my previous post – grab your boyfriends white shirt and wear it oversized tucked into some high waisted trousers. Go to white shirts:

2. Work Trouser

Trousers are totally dependant on your body type and how you feel comfortable. What looks great on a 5″9 lady wont necessarily work for me at 5″4. Over time you may have learnt your lessons. But get ride of the ill fitting! For me, high waisted is a must to elongate my legs. I also have a much smaller waist than I do my legs and hips, so wide leg or relaxed fit is more comfortable but tucking in my shirt gives me some shape. Also consider that you may be wearing these trousers for 10 hours of your day, they must be comfortable! I have recently started following Ems Wells who is the Queen of tapered trousers.

The majority of Emily’s seem to be from Topshop.

Elborn is an independent brand by Elborn Doris. They have the most beautiful fitted chino is you can get them in your size!

3. Blazer

For those chilly mornings, evenings and formal meetings a blazer is the go to. I love a tuxedo style, but also very partial to a tweed chanel cropped. So whichever is your favourite, chuck it on top of your shirt for warmth and formality.

4. Jumper

One those cooler days instead of a blazer, especially if your work is more casual, opt for a jumper. Lots of high street shops are upping their game with good quality jumpers. H&M was great last autumn.

5. Coat

In the UK this sunny weather will only last so long. Investing in a good coat will always be sensible. I love a long coat, in classic styles.

6. Shoes

There are lots of options for shoes. With it being spring summer I’m not going to add boots into the mix as there are too many options. Safe options: espadrille wedge, ballet flat, block heel – for more block heels check out my previous post. The most important thing again, comfort, you might walk 10,000 steps per day in these. Also make sure you can walk in them, thats why there are no stilletos on this post.

Ballet Flat –French Sole, Repetto, Marks and Spencer

Block Heel – Sezane, Chanel, Marks and Spencer
